Laguna Backpack Program
5 families at Laguna receive weekend food that their teens bring home in school backpacks. Thanks to Vanessa Fujimoto for her leadership, and all the volunteers who make this program so meaningful.
Volunteers include: Linda Collins, Roberta Filadelfia, Esther Funke, Michele Hall, Donna Jeberjahn, Nanette Tarpinian, Lainie Wachter, and Arlene Yost. Megan Healy, Laguna counselor, Michaela Ricca, high school student, and intern, Katy Bangs, provide incredible support.
Marianne, the counselors' secretary, said that the children that participated last year would not make eye contact with her; his year they not only make eye contact, but are smiling. Another District employee who works with some of the teens in this program mentioned that, "These children are the poorest of the poor and so look forward to meals during the weekend."
