A Recipe from Gail Sears - a hit at our last potluck

Creamy Apple Squares

1 pkg Pillsbury Yellow Cake Mix (with pudding incorporated in the mix)
½ c. soft margarine or butter
¼ c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon
6 green apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
1 c. sour cream
1 egg

Combine the cake mix and margarine. Mix until crumbly.

In a separate bowl, assemble the topping:  2/3 c. mixture of margarine and cake mix, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.

Press remaining mixture of margarine and cake mix in the bottom of a 13x9 inch Pyrex dish. Arrange apple slices over base. Blend sour cream and egg. Spread evenly over all. Sprinkle topping.

Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and bubbly. Serve warm or cold.

Ongoing Support

Womenade continues to collect toiletries and bags for Family Care Network and the Grizzly Academy.  You know, those little containers of shampoo and lotion from hotels, and the bags you get at conferences.  FCN children often arrive to be sheltered with only the clothes on their backs, and having personal care products and a bag to carry their new items in is important.  If you have some to share, they can be dropped at Sandy's door or brought to a potluck.

Laguna Backpack Program

As the school year winds down, its time to shout special appreciation to Arlene Yost and her backpack team of Donna Jeberjahn, Vanessa Fujimoto, Michele Hall, Francine Johnston, and Nan Tarpinian.   With the amazing support of Laguna Middle School counselor, Megan Healy, these volunteers have provided weekend food for 5 students and their families.  Thanks for all your shopping, organizing, and caring!

Adopt a Classroom Information from Rosemary Cleaves

Nell Quijano and I have talked about ways we could directly help local
classrooms and I had toyed with the idea of having a place folks could go to
donate to a specific classroom.  Well, wouldn't you know that some wonderful
person has already dreamed up this idea and all of the contributions donated go
directly to the classroom you adopt.  The teacher can shop at specific websites
that the program has made deals with.  The executive director is the founder of
the 501(c)(3) organization and contributions to classrooms do not go to pay his
salary.  I expect he does separate grant writing for that.  The Charitynavigator
rating service likes them.  I thought you'd like to know so you
can spread the word among your teacher community.  It's such a great idea.

Thanks, Rosemary, for discovering this opportunity!
